A Brief History of Lakewood Village

Lakewood Village, situated on the 18-hole Brown Deer Golf Course, is a beautiful, mature condominium complex. It is unique in that no two units are exactly the same. Residents appreciate many amenities that include spacious grounds, lovely views, an indoor heated swimming pool, a pool patio, two dressing rooms with showers, two laundry rooms, and a large community room with kitchenette and billiard table.

When Allan Poots designed the buildings, there were no other condominiums in the Coralville area and only one small condo complex in all the Iowa City area. He was inspired by the design of Olde Dutch-English styles for both the interior and exterior. The bricks on the building exteriors came from Chicago, are over two-hundred years old, and were more costly than new bricks. He was the first to offer individually attached garages.

The C Building, known as The Midlands, was constructed in 1975, followed by the A (Ashton), B
(Bentley), and D (Darby) Buildings in 1977. The A, B, and D-Buildings each contain eight units which are two and three bedrooms. The C-Building contains twenty-eight units, varying in size from one to three bedrooms. All units have fireplaces and balconies or patios (except for the C-Building garden units).

The Lakewood Village amenities, the cost of which is borne by the Lakewood Village Condominium
Homeowners’ Association, include lawncare, snow removal, property and liability insurance, building

structural maintenance, common area maintenance, and trash and recycling pick-up. The A, B, and D-Building owners are individually metered for water, gas, and electric service. The C-Building owners pay their for own electric use and a monthly fee for water and water softening.

Lakewood Village is governed by the LVCHA Board of Directors. The directors are elected by the owners and serve staggered, 3-year terms and meet bimonthly. All owners are invited and encouraged to attend the meetings.Lakewood Village is managed by KMB Property Management, 916 Maiden Lane, Iowa City 52240.

Fifty years later, Lakewood Village remains a desirable development in a beautiful setting.
